Introduction

We are planning a trip to SE Asia for three months from the end of October until the end of January. However, nothing is set in stone yet, so we can adjust our plans to different dates or shorten it, to suit whoever decides to house and pet sit for us.

We live in a lovely, but rural area in the West of Ireland, but there are towns for groceries 7, 10 and 20 minutes away.

Our two dogs Snowy and Dakota are very sweet and love attention, however, Snowy can jump at times when he gets enthusiastic.

Our three cats Batman, Pika, and Ninja are true pets, although they live outdoors a lot of the time.

Our Home

We're located in the West of Ireland, in County Mayo. We are 35 minutes from the beach and there are two smaller towns within 7 and 10 minutes. A bigger town is about 20 minutes from us. We're very central between County Sligo and Galway (both 1 hour), both cities are very nice for a visit. We will leave you our family car (7-seater) to use. There are buses and trains going to and from larger areas like Dublin, Galway, and Westport, however, all train or bus stations are at least a 15-minute drive, so a car is essential. If planning to go to Dublin using the car, I would like to receive a message, as part of the toll is paid for automatically. This way I can be prepared.

Our home is a three bedroom (one double bed, two singles, and one double/single bunk bed), so suitable for up to 7 people, however, the size of the house could make it feel crowded with more than 5. We have Wifi access at the house, however, this is limited to 750 GB a month. But if you'd need more, we can work on that.

It's not an issue to leave the dogs home alone for a couple of hours, however, I always put the couch on its side, as they tend to get on the couch and they are hairy!

Speaking of hairy: Snowy (I shouldn't have called him that!) and Dakota shed their fur twice a year, but Snowy keeps losing hair all year round, so be aware of the fact that sweeping/vacuuming the dog's living area (kitchen/hallway/living room) sometimes needs to be done more than once a day. It takes me about 10 minutes to vacuum the house, so it's not too bad. But it's better to be prepared than not. The cats usually come in throughout the day and evening when we're home, but usually, don't stay indoors overnight.

Due to the remote location of the house, the only heat supply to the house is the range/cooker in the house. Once this is heated, it will heat the radiators and water. There is an immersion heating system for hot water in the shower if needed, however, this should only be used sparsely.

There are a bath and a shower in the bathroom, and one toilet in the hallway.

The living room and open kitchen are adjoined and there is quite some space here.

House Sitters Responsibilities

Our two dogs love kids. However, the girl is VERY protective, especially of any children. She will get in between children when they are arguing or even when it's just child-play. She will not hurt anyone, but this can be quite intimidating. Therefore I think house-sit will not be suitable for families with very small children.

Both dogs are gentle giants and love cuddles.
